Stephen Colbert was really happy on Sunday with his Emmy win in the variety show category, particularly because he broke buddy Jon Stewart's 10-year streak in the category.
He crowed about it on Tuesday night's Colbert Report.
First, he noted that he made a "verbal gaffe" when he accepted the Emmy. He thanked "everyone who works on the show to make it possible."
He said, "I don't know what I was thinking. I'm the only one who does this show. ... I meant to thank myself but in the excitement I blanked on the word me!"
He went on to say the victory was "that much sweeter" because he "vanquished" Stewart, ending his "10-year reign of terror."
Enter Stewart, who instead of feeling defeated congratulated Colbert.
"It is really important to me that I have crushed you," Colbert told him, bummed out that Stewart wasn't feeling more sour.
In the end it was revealed why. Shouted Stewart, "I'm an executive producer on your show so I won again, mother (expletive)!"
The two hugged it out.
