A business Knox County's District Attorney called a "haven of criminal activity and a danger to the surrounding ccommunity" has been shut down.

On Thursday, Knoxville Police and the DAG's office closed Chalmer's Grill and Night Club, located at 513 N. 17th Street, near the UT campus.

Judge Bob McGee ordered the closure under the state's nuisance law.

Investigators said the business was the center of a conspiracy to traffic large amounts of cocaine from Detroit to Knoxville. Undercover investigators recorded purchases of heroin inside the business.

One person has been charged. One of the business' owners, Rickey Brown of Detroit, was charged with Violation of Probation for Facilitation of Possession with Intent to Sell Schedule I drugs.

This is the 44th nuisance injunction closure by the DAG and KPD.
