(WBIR) The Knox County Health Department will start the second phase of its school-located FluMist vaccination clincs on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Children 8 years old or younger, who have not had at least two influenza vaccinations since July 2010, are required two doses separated by at least one month. Phase two vaccination clinics will be at Knox County elementary schools as well as some Heat Starts, private elementary schools and child care centers.

No child will get a vaccination without a completed, signed and returned consent form. If parents completed a consent form during phase one, they don't need to complete another one. If a child missed their phase one clinic date, they can get a flu vaccination during phase two. Parents can take their child to any health department location for a flu vaccine.

Flu shots and FluMist vaccinations are available to Knox County residents for $25 an $35 at any KCHD location. FluMist is an intra-nasal influenza vaccine that's approved by the FDA for use in children as young as 2 years old.

Over the past eight years, KCHD has vaccinated about 45 percent of school-aged children or 25,000 kids per year through these school-based clinics.
