Any American will tell you the United States is a patriotic country,but as we mark another Independence Day, can any city stake a claim tobe the most patriotic? Foursquare,the popular app that enables mobile check-ins at venues across thenation, has applied an interesting formula to try to provide an answer.

Accordingto Foursquare's analysis, the USA's most patriotic city isKnoxville, Tenn., followed by Oklahoma City and Raleigh, N.C. Foursquarebases the list on an analysis of activity from July 4, 2012, when theyfound that residents of these cities were most likely to check in atparks, parades and fireworks celebrations. Here's a look at the top ten:

2. Oklahoma City

3. Raleigh, N.C.

4. San Antonio, Texas

5. Houston

6. Sarasota, Fla.

7. Phoenix

8. Baltimore

9. Charlotte, N.C.

10. Kansas City, Mo.

Foursquarealso compiled a list of historic sites with the most check-ins lastJuly 4, with cities famous for their Independence Day celebrations wellrepresented. Washington, D.C., dominates the slate, with the WashingtonMonument -- the epicenter of the city's all-day activities -- receivingthe most check-ins across the country. Boston's Faneuil Hall comes insecond, with Philadelphia's Independence Hall and New York's Statue ofLiberty also hosting many revelers. Here's the top ten:

2. Quincy Market / Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston

3. Lincoln Memorial, Washington

4. The White House, Washington

5. Independence Hall, Philadelphia
