(WBIR-Jefferson City, Tn) Jefferson City police officers fatally shot a man who was coming at them with a knife, according to the TBI.

Investigators say someone called 911 around 9:20 am Monday morning to report someone was threatening a man with a knife.

Officers responded to1026 Martha Glass Drive in Jefferson City, where Tracy Lynn Daniel, 51, of Jefferson City, refused their demands that he drophisweapon. Instead, officers sayDaniel advanced towards them with the knife, and two officers fired.

Daniel was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

None of the officers were hurt.

Carol Sabol witnessed most of the confrontation after loud voices drew her outside her Martha Glass Dr. apartment Monday morning.

Sabol says she knew both of the men and tried to talk Daniel down, encouraging him to put down the knife.

"I said 'Tracy, please put the knife down you would not want to hurt Glen, he's a kindly man'," said Sabol. Glen, whose last name has not been provided by investigators, was the neighbor Sabol was threatening. But as far as she knew, Sabol says the twohadn't had issues in the past.

Sabol says the neighbor distracted Daniel and she ran inside and called 911.

She says she had come to know Daniel well in the three months she'd lived nearby, taking him to church or inviting him for dinner.

As a former nurse, she says she suspected he may have been managing a mental illness, but didn't know for sure.

Either way, she says what happened on Monday left her shaken. Daniel's behavior was so inconsistent with the man she used to read scripture with, said Sabol. "And then he turned on me."

The TBI does not release the names of officers involved in shootings. So far, the Jefferson City Police Department has referred all questions to the TBI.
