The coupon book costs $10 and includes offers for nearly 300 area merchants

Knox County Schools kicked off its 25th annual coupon book fundraiser Thursday.

The 2013 Original Knox County Schools Coupon Book includes 43 new merchants and special anniversary offers.

The cost remains the same at $10.

Students and schools will sell the coupon books through Sept. 23.

Knox County Schools' kicked off the campaign with a celebration at West Haven Elementary School that recognized the top-selling students from last year's fundraising drive and representatives from the coupon book's primary corporate sponsors.

Money from the coupon book sales is used to meet needs at each Knox County school that are selected by parents, teachers and school administrators.

The 2013 campaign goal is to sell 160,000 books, which would bring in $1.4 million for schools.

Of the $10 cost, $8 of each sale goes to the school where the book is sold. That is the most profit ever given to the schools in the coupon book's history.

Schools with greater economic needs share 70 cents from the sale of each book and 13 cents goes to ebook subscriptions for all Knox County Schools' libraries.

The 2013 coupon book includes offers from almost 300 area merchants worth more than $10,000. A list of participating merchants is available on the Knox County Schools' website.

Last year, students sold 153,642 coupon books, raising almost $1.4 million. Since 1989, more than 3.2 million coupon books have been sold to raise more than $27.5 million.
