A report published in entertainment trade magazine "Variety" says Discovery Communications is considering buying the Knoxville-based company Scripps Networks Interactive.

According to the Variety report, a source said board members discussed a bid at a board meeting Tuesday morning. Variety says representatives with Discovery and Scripps declined to comment on the matter.

Scripps is considered a valuable company to buy because of its success with HGTV, Travel Channel, and Food Network.

Other companies have also pursued Scripps including NBC Universal, Fox, and Disney.
