Efforts to change Lake City's name to Rocky Top and build a $20 million theme park are picking up support at the state capitol.

Last month, council members in Lake City voted to change Lake City's name to Rocky Top. That would open an opportunity for developers to create a "Rocky Top" theme park.

Since the approval, city officials have been trying to avoid road blocks including a possible copyright infringement over the song "Rocky Top." House of Bryant Publications, the company that owns the popular song, says it has several patents with the name.

City officials say Mayor Tim Sharp met with the company last week in Nashville, but would not comment on how the meeting went. While he was in the Music City, he also met with state legislatures.

Lawmakers still must approve the name change, and city officials say the proposal is getting widespread support.

Lake City plans to send its resolution to the state capitol soon.
