Several counties in our backyard will soon be part of the national Strike Force Initiative, a move to help rural poor counties like those in Appalachia.

The US Department of Agriculture announced Friday the initiative will help several counties in Tennessee, 73 counties in Kentucky, and dozens more in West Virginia and Louisiana.

Strike Force has helped more than 80,000 projects since 2010. It helps communities take advantage of resources available to them and how that money could be used to help rural areas.
