A new residential option for some of East Tennessee's oldest residents celebrated its grand opening Thursday.
The Morning Point Assisted Living & Alzheimer's Care Center is located in Knox County near the North Knoxville Medical Center. It features a residential format and residents are encouraged to do their own decorating to make it feel like home.
The company president says the center's close proximity to a hospital adds an additional feeling of security.
"People are living stronger and staying healthier. 10,000 people a day are turning 65, but they're living to 75 and 85 and 95 and that's why these services are so important to folks who want to stay close to home, close to their children, stay close to medical services," said Greg Vital, president of Morning Point.
Up to 80 residents can live at the center. That includes 53 assisted living apartments and 20 apartments in a separate wing designed for residents with Alzheimer's and other memory disorders.
