(WBIR - Knoxville) The City of Knoxville announced Friday a new landscaping project at Market Square that it said will make the area more accessible and user-friendly.

According to the city's website, construction crews will begin to create a new, paved walkway that will meander through the six oak trees that line the southern half of the area. City officials say the new walkway will protect the root system of those trees.

The city said it expects the project to be completed by the end of March, before the spring season of festivals and events.
