(WBIR) Monday morning, thousands of students will meander through hallways of Knox County Schools, embarking on their first day of school this year.

Students begin with just a half day on Monday, then will have their first full day of classes on Tuesday.

This year also features many firsts for Knox County including a handful of ninth graders beginning school on a college campus. Career Magnet Academy will welcome more than 100 freshmen on Pellissippi State Community College's Strawberry Plains campus.

Plus, the L & N STEM Academy will welcome its first non-Knox County students. The Board of Education approved the admission of three Campbell County students this year.
