A group of ambitious high school students in Greeneville overcame several obstacles to create a helicopter drone.
The junior ROTC unit at Greeneville High School created quad helicopters from scratch. They didn't use a kit in order to save money.
The government shutdown late last year cut funding to the ROTC program, so they had to be economically efficient.
"Well the government basically shut down so a lot of the funding got halted. So we went back to TVETS and asked could we use the money to keep our unit going while this sequestration is going on and they agreed," said Galen Kirchmeier, senior aerospace science instructor.
The students are going to use the flying machine to record sporting events and projects.
