The City of Alcoa has hired a new police chief. City Manager Mark Johnson announced Philip Potter of Huntersville, North Carolina as the new chief.

Potter began his career in Ohio as a patrol officer in 1974. He's been the chief of police in Huntersville since 2004.

Potter replaces the late Ken Burge who passed away in July. He had been Alcoa's police chief since 2004 and worked in law enforcement for 39 years.

Potter is expected to start his new role the first week of December.
