(WBIR) A North Knoxville company announced Thursday its plans to expand and add more than 200 new local jobs.
Knoxville Locomotive Works along with Gov. Haslam said over the next three years the company will invest $6.1 million and create 203 jobs for its new assembly and fabrication plant.
As part of the expansion, the company said it plans to purchase eight acres and two buildings next to its current facility at 300 West Quincy Avenue.
The expansion will also help the plant make its customers satisfy new EPA emission requirements for trains. The company has patented a new system that makes it cheaper to refurbish older locomotives in order to meet those standards.
The business said it also plans to renovate its current facility by extending the assembly line, installing indoor railroad tracks and new overhead cranes.
Knoxville Locomotive Works plans to begin accepting applications in January. Applicants can send their resumes to General Manager Tom German at P.O. Box 2408, Knoxville, TN 37901-2408.
