The Oak Ridge Board of Education has approved a money transfer to avoid a school shutdown.
Board members approved both the first and second reading of the plan to fast track it Monday evening. The plan transfers $250,000 from the City of Oak Ridge to the school system.
If the city did not come up with the money, the schools would have lost nearly $2 million a month in state funding.
The board also approved a plan to allow home schooled athletes to play on the school's teams. Those students must have good grades to compete.
