(WBIR) A former federal deputy U.S. Marshal has announced his run for the Sheriff of Anderson County Tuesday.
Anthony Lay, who is a Scott County native, is seeking the Republican nomination for sheriff in May 2014. Lay is a currently an officer with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He has served as Sheriff of Scott County. When he turned 33 years old, he was appointed as a Federal U.S. Marshal in Atlanta. Lay now lives in Clinton with his wife and and two children.
Now he says he wants to apply his experience to tackle crime problems Anderson County struggles with the most.
"Without a doubt, my focus is going to be on crime. I have worked for a large drug and violent crime task force that consisted of four large counties in Middle Tennessee and have the experience need to clean up our two largest crime problems: drugs and theft," said Lay in a release.
