(WBIR-Seymour) Grief counselors are at Seymour High School Friday morning to help students, faculty and staff cope with the loss of one of their own.

Caitlin Coates, 16, of Seymour and her grandmother, 56-year-old Robin Miller, died Thursday morning after an SUV smashed into their vehicle on Chapman Highway in Seymour.

Sevier County Schools Assistant Superintendent Dr. Debra Cline described the junior as a "precious young lady" and a "good student." Cline said the faculty, staff and students are deeply "saddened by this sudden loss."

Tennessee Highway Patrol said Joey Mannon III, 39, or Seymour was driving south on Chapman Highway when he ran a red light and hit Coates's car. Officials cited Mannon for running a red light. Criminal charges are also pending against Mannon.

(WBIR) Charges are pending against a driver that a state trooper says ran a red light and hit another car, killing both women inside.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Joey Mannnon, III, 39, of Seymour, was driving south on Chapman Highway when he ran a red light at Tittsworth Springs Road around 7:40 am.

The THP report says Mannon's SUV hit a car driven by Caitlyn Coates, 16, of Seymour, which had just pulled on to Chapman Highway. Coates and her grandmother, Robin Miller, 56, also of Seymour, were killed. A THP spokesperson says they were grandmother and granddaughter.

Mannon was cited with disregarding a red signal, and the THP report says criminal charges are pending.

Two people died Thursday morning following a multiple vehicle crash on Chapman Highway, Sgt. Bill Miller with THP confirmed to WBIR 10News.

THP described the incident as a two vehicle t-bone crash.

The crash happened at Tittsworth Springs Road and Chapman Highway in Sevier County.

THP previously told WBIR 10News that dispatchers advised them that two females were unresponsive in one of the vehicles.

Sevier County Sheriffs Department, Seymour Fire, and THP responded to the scene.
