(WBIR - Knoxville) The University of Tennessee, in conjunction with the Nashville Sports Council, announced Thursday that the Volunteer football team will start the 2015 season at LP Field, the home of the Tennessee Titans.
The game will be September 5, Labor Day weekend, and their opponent will be the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Blazers, of Conference USA. The game's start time hasn't been decided yet.
"Scott Ramsey (CEO & President of the Nashville Sports Council) and I have been in conversation about opening our 2015 season in Nashville for more than a year," said Tennessee vice chancellor and director of athletics Dave Hart. "It is exciting to have this come to fruition, and we look forward to opening our season in front of a great crowd in Nashville. has not been determined yet."
Hart said the move is a way to connect with the university's Middle Tennessee fan base and alumna.
UT announced earlier this year that it will be playing Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2016.
